SURF COACHING NICARAGUA
Hola, I’m Emeline, owner of SALTY SURF POPOYO.
After owning & running a surf camp for more than 10 years, I’m now dedicated to private Surf Coaching.
Because Surf Coaching is personal, whatever your unique needs are, we can have a conversation and decide together what the best next steps would be.
I offer 2 options:
- Private Surf Coaching
- Surf Retreats in Nicaragua (New destinations coming soon).
Feel free to contact me for a personalized Surf Coaching Trip. Full packages ranging from 3 – 14 days or more are available.
Can you easily catch unbroken waves? Are you ready to refine your turns? Perhaps you still struggle with your take off when waves get a bit steeper or bigger? Do you lack confidence and technique when the waves get a little bit bigger? Do you feel overwhelmed by crowds and trying to catch waves when you’re surrounded by better surfers? Does your fear of wipe-outs block you? If so, I can help.

My approach:
My approach is tailor-made for you as an individual. To do that, I first diagnose your current surfing skills and abilities, and we go from there. We also use the energy and experience of the small group to make everyone stronger, while the individual attention you get fine-tunes your surfing technique. In this program we work on 3 goals:
- Enjoy the surf and the waves worry-free.
- Refine your mindset and become the surfer you want to be.
- Move past your comfort zone (safely) and build confidence to go the next level.
Daily program during a Surf Coaching Retreat:
A typical surf coaching day with me includes:
- 6:30 am – breakfast
- 7:30am – surf session
- 10:00am – video analysis
- 10:30 -11:30am – workshop
- 12:00pm – Lunch
- 3:00-5:00pm – surf session
- 6:30pm – video analysis (with an optional glass of wine)
- 7:30pm – dinner
Exact times of this schedule may change depending on weather conditions, tides, and surf spots.

My Methodology:
I believe honesty is the best policy! The art of surfing is difficult to master and the process along the way can be frustrating. Unlike conventional surf lessons, I will give you the tools to help you continue making progress even after you leave.
My approach consists of three key elements to take your surfing to the next level while having tons of fun.
Your goals:
Before the retreat, I will ask you to complete a questionnaire, so that we can assess your level, identify points to work on and clarify your expectations. If you’d like, I can also send you some exercise videos that will prepare your body for our time together, especially if you haven’t recently been surfing.

Surf sessions:
Typically I do two surf sessions a day at surf spots suited for your level. I will explain to you how the waves in the area work and I will paddle out with you to boost your confidence and help you deal with other surfers.
Video analysis is the key factor for improving movement and control. With slow motion we can resolve every single paddle stroke, hand position or hip rotation. That will allow us to understand why certain things happened or not. Bring a USB drive with you, because afterwards, you can take the recordings home for free.
Workshops:
Dry Land Movement:
Practicing first turns and maneuvers on the water can be overwhelming. An efficient way to make progress in your surfing requires a good surf technique. My dryland simulations are your solution to master repetitive movements. I will work with you on land, so you have no distractions, and simulate maneuvers with you. Repeating these will make them far easier to execute while in the water, as well as build confidence. Dryland simulations are key to making faster progress.
Theory Lessons:
Many elements are easier to explain with a TV screen and a whiteboard, rather than on the beach. Several times a week there are theory lessons about the essential aspects of surfing: swell and surf forecast, security and water safety, surf etiquette, competition in the wsl, etc…
Mindset:
Surfing can be intimidating, and fear often blocks you from making progress. I will help you to become aware of your fears, give tips to recruit empowering emotions in each situation, and prevent panic.
I will also utilize several visualization exercises and mental imagery to help you develop muscle memory so that your surfing technique becomes automatic.
